"Company's Coming"

When you work at an Animal Control shelter, I'd assume you'd get to the point where "I've heard everything."  But when I received an incredulous email from Kim who works at Animal Control, I knew that this cat's story deserved to be told.

Actually?  There really isn't a story.  "Bella" was surrendered to the shelter by her owners because...

"She's scared when people come over to visit."

Yeah.  That's the reason that was given by Bella's loyal family.   So this beautiful, (did I mention that she's sweeeeeet?) spayed, declawed, girl will die (unless she's rescued) because she doesn't like it when company comes over.

I hope somebody can help her.  Because Bella is an owner surrender, the shelter doesn't have to keep her alive for the usual 3 days.  They can kill her at any time.

"I hope you enjoy your company, you ignorant *&!#@"

I'm just gobsmacked, I really am. I hope Bella gets rescued but I am realistic enough to realise that she probably won't. Girl cats don't seem to do very well in our house unfortunately and with O'Malley being the little terrorist (albeit a terribly cute one) that he is (Bertie and Sammy are in the process of re-educating him though), I don't know what I could do to help. I just hope Karma steps in and really lets her 'family' have it! Awful, awful people...

Where is she? Is there a Petfinder link? I'd like to repost, but need info in case someone does want to take her.

Sparkle: She's in Hamilton, ON Anybody that's interested in rescuing should contact me ASAP.

This shelter euthanizes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. She's safe for tomorrow's "Vet day". (Monday)

My god if they wanted an animal that got excited when company came over they should have gotten a dog or a kid. Of course then they would complain that it would be too excited.

I'm happy that Blair doesn't like company it means she is hiding in a room being god compared to getting up to her usual troublesome antics.

Beth I really do not know how you do it sometimes. I would likely end up buying a huge farm for animals to live happily ever after.

GDI! Some people make me want to break things! Two of my three cats are shy around company, at least at first, and I don't mind that at all!

I'll share this on the Paws and Effect Facebook page in hopes that some of our 740 fans have connections in Canada.

Hello,

I'd like to adopt her if no one near Ontario will. How can I get her to Maine?

Cheers,
Leigh

Leigh: Thank you so much for your kind offer. You'd have to come to Ontario to pick up this little girl, plus connect with me to be screened for adoption. :)

Canukpet: She's 5 years old. I'm going to meet her today and will get some more information :)

HotD, send me an eMail with your vetting questions, please, and I'll answer, just in case no one in Ontario rescues her. I can't let this happen. Even grumpy husband gave the okay. -Leigh

Because she can't stand company? Sheesh! Myst HATES visitors. This is making me wish I lived closer to Canada.

That is terrible. If I lived closer I would totally help. She looks similar to my Bella Mae! Until Cordelia Joy, all my cats have been leery when company came over, but I knew better than to be offended by it. I think humans (at times) have unrealistic expectations for their animals/pets.

I hate SO many people, and stories like Bella's, is why...

My late Butkus kitty was terrified of everyone except me and Andy. He'd hide for an hour after he heard the phone ring, just in case it was someone buzzing up from the lobby. SO WHAT? People didn't get to meet him. Big deal. Grrrr.

It's too bad my mom can't take anyone in for a few weeks, because Bella sounds like a nice foster fit. :(

Bella is beautiful and definitely not afraid of strangers, dogs yes but strangers no. She has settled in well in her foster home and would make a nice pet for a "single pet" quiet family.
