An Update On Monty

Monty was a sad little guy when he was rescued. He was placed into several foster homes and seemed to have trouble adjusting.   Our experienced foster Mom Michelle M. took on Monty and loved and nurtured him for a year.  During the year, two potential adopters came to meet him and on both occasions Monty headed for
the hills and hid under the foster Mom's bed and wouldn't come out. It's always a sad moment for any foster parent when you have to dig a unhappy cat out from under the bed. "How will Monty ever find a Forever Home?"

Until one day...

Bernice called the rescue line and was interested in adopting Monty. As an adoption screener you want to give people an accurate picture of the cat. So I was thrilled that Bernice wanted to meet Monty!! Understandably, Bernice wasn't sure
about our orange boy. But Monty was sure about HER! He came over to her and stretched out on his side. "Pick me! Pick me!" Monty seem to exclaim. Bernice took Monty home and we held our collective breaths that it was a Forever Home.
The next day Bernice wrote to say how much she had loved him. After all that time, Monty flourished and we could once again breathe.

One of the greatest moments of my cat rescue "Career" is receiving a video of our "sad little boy Monty".   A very thoughtful adopter sent Michelle the following video and with her permission I'm posting it here.

Many hugs and thank you's to Michelle and to Monty's new Mom "Bernice" for giving Monty an opportunity to know love again.

You make my life meaningful.

What a great story, it made me tear up, I love that Monty found such a perfect home. Beth, did you decide to keep Sherman? We have a foster cat that we are trying to decide whether to keep. We just had an enquiry and our first response was oh no. Guess that says either we should keep him or we are just unsuitable foster parents.

Yay! Such happy news for "our" Mr. Monty. As ours was one of the foster homes in which he had a tough time adjusting, we are so thrilled to see him looking so happy!

What a FABULOUS update, Beth. Apparently Monty was just waiting for the RIGHT human to come along, and so she did. This video gave me goose bumps, but in a good way. Purrs and Blessings to Monty and his forever family. :-)

I too think Monty was waiting for Bernice. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right one.

So here's the rest of the "Monty story". I had another male orange tabby named "Bob" who died in the summer of 2010 due to cancer. Bob and I were together for 18 happy years and I was really sad when the time came to say goodbye. A couple of months later my sister sent to me an email with a kitten that needed fostering. The kitten was super cute but I wasn't sure how my other older cat (Miss Fifie) would react to a kitten. However, it did get me looking at the rescue website on a regular basis and then I saw Monty. He seemed kind of sad (but definitely handsome) in the picture, but I was still hesitant because of how Miss Fifie might take it. Anyway, on October 10, 2010, Monty was the "cat of the day" on the website and I thought to myself THAT'S IT - a sign!!! (10/10/10) I HAVE to see him!!!! So, Michelle was kind enough to rearrange her schedule for me to meet Monty and the rest is history. Miss Fifie (all 7 lbs of her vs. his now 17.3 lbs) did intimidate him initially (he lived upstairs for a while while she had the run of the house) but now he is right at home. He and I kind of have our own language as he talks all the time (but curiously silent for the video). He's a great cat and I am certainly the lucky one in all of this!! Thanks to all of the foster mom's who looked after him until he and I found each other!!!!
