This is usually a busy time for rescue, but I really haven't been on the rescue-side of things. Cats are being rescued - just not by me. January is generally a wonderful time for adoptions, healthy cats at the shelter, and slow euthanasia rates.
I've considered starting my own rescue again, but I've enjoyed the freedom of being merely a foster parent gives me. No more midnight hysterical phone calls from foster parents and I don't have to worry about veterinary bills.
I'm still responding to adoption emails that come into the shelter from people who saw a cat on their website. I guess that's where my heart is - at that shelter. I wish they'd start an adoption program. I'd be the first in line to ask for a job. (Me? A job?)
Strange, that I'm being so impatient about this. I've been overly busy with rescue for many years without ever having a paid job. You'd think that I'd be thrilled to have some downtime to learn French or workout at the gym. (*puke*) My youngest son tells me that I'm driving him crazy with my constant nagging and questions regarding his academic future.
I'm not sure why, but I feel like this is a turning point for me. Something is going to happen. I don't know what it is, or if it's good or bad...but whatever it is, it requires my schedule to be free. Because suddenly that's what I have - a free schedule. Weird and a little frightening.
Until this revelation reveals itself, y'all are going to be stuck looking at cute pictures of Boris - this time with his new best buddy "Thomas":

You are a better person than I am, if I had free time I would plotting against the neighbors, I am very vindictive , just not creative LOL
Why aren't you rescuing at the moment, did I miss something? I can't imagine you not saving cats Beth. The world is a better place because you save cats!
Wait, the shelter doesn't do an adoption program by itself? So..the only cats that are adopted are done through you

Laura: Yes! Actually, I'm the only one that does these adoptions. These cats don't stand much of a chance once they arrive there. :(
How about writing a book about your life in cat rescue, your blog title could be the book title! The proceeds could help rescue more cats.
Beth: Perhaps you are just having a bit of down time to refuel your energy. Nothing works at rejuvenation better than twiddling your thumbs. In my experience the bad stuff comes on top of you being super crazy busy and the good stuff comes in those quite moments. Sit with a cat and some tea and let your mind go where it will. The purpose for your open schedule will come to you.
You are amazing. AMAZING. let your friends and family (and fuzzy family) support you for awhile - refill your spirit till you are over flowing. The next step is in you.
Till then there isn't a single follower who won't love pics of the kitties and updates on rescues.

Beth, I am so sorry things are so difficult for you right now. I believe that turning points are always a good thing...they help us to regroup and refocus our priorities. I am not sure in what direction your turning point will take you, but I am hoping that it will take you back to shelter to rescue more amazing cats. They need you, and we need you; remember when times are tough you have this huge circle of support to lean on. take care Beth, keep smiling!
