For the Sake Of the Cats I Love

As always, I'm astounded by the love, care and support I receive when I post something like I did yesterday.  Even though I'm undeserving of such praise, certainly the cats I represent deserve it!

I've received a couple of anonymous menacing voicemails.  Isn't it amazing that people can put so much effort into ugliness when the same effort could be used for something productive?

That being said, I was back at the shelter today and rescued an adorable kitten and a very sweet adult girl named "Tessa":
Oh how I LOVE to rescue the adult cats!!  With kittens, it's always a party at the shelter.  Most of the time, the kittens miss the cuddling and stimulation, but otherwise they're usually a happy bunch.  But the adults *know* they've lost their home.

When I sang my little rescue song to Tessa, I held her closely and whispered it in her ear.  Somehow, she didn't get the message that she was safe, because she pooped, pee'd and barfed in her carrier and howled  the ENTIRE way to the vets!  Poor little girl was a MESS by the time we arrived at the vet clinic!!!   Thank goodness the weather was great - I opened the sunroof, windows and we let it all hang out.  I guess to some cats - the cat carrier = vet visit + declawing + shelter.  "Nothing good happens when you're in a cat carrier."  :)

I'm moving forward for the sake of the cats and my rescue that I dearly love.  I've been blogging for more than 3 years and a lot of good has come from it.  I should be surprised that it's taken 3 and a half years for some over-the-top crazies to use it against me.

As long as there are cats like Tessa who need me...I'm not going anywhere.

Good for you! And how *awful* of those people leaving you anonymous messages. I mean, really? That's *their* contribution to getting cats out of a hell-hole? Go do something useful, you ass-hats...

Hurrah for Tessa! (not the barfing, pooping and peeing part, of course...it didn't sound like she needed any encouragement for that...) and the kitten :D I'm glad they had you in their corner today :D

You are awesome!

I'm glad you are staying, Beth. I just have to make a comment. I have the most wonderful vet I can imagine and have used her for 20 years. But, I believe that shelters and pounds are filling up daily because of the vet costs. It's so easy to get a kitten and even its first shots are manageable for most but then the real costs come in and people don't have the $200-$400 for the spay so they don't bother. Then all hell breaks loose and out they go. I've seen it more times than I want to remember. Our shelter here is full. They are now turning people away. The highest percentage of cats are 1 year - 3 years old (unspayed). What does that tell you? We need to send these people who like to give you a hard time out to the vet's offices to rid their frustrations. Hang in there. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

I'm glad you're keeping the blog, Beth. I saw yesterday's post, didn't think I should comment.

But the best news is that Tessa has a second chance! :-)

Beth
This is my first time to comment, been a lurker for a long time. I have to tell you that I was sadden yesterday when I read your post but today I am glad to see that you have decided to keep your blog. I know it must be hard to shake off the bad stuff that comes from decisions that are controversial (to some) but the overall support I believe outweighs the negative. You do such good work with your rescue and I really do enjoy reading your experiences.

I'm pretty sure you can get IP addresses of inappropriate commenters. And your phone carrier CAN trace voicemails. Use words like "police report" and "threats" if needed. Blocked calls, even.

Thanks for sticking around. And for sticking up for Tessa and all the cats and kittens who need you.

Poop on the anonymous menacers! I'm glad you are keeping your blog, too. Even though I don't comment much, I read your posts in my reader and I rejoice with every Rescue Day song.

Keep at it Beth! Your blog is the only thing I look forward to reading when my kids go to bed, I love it and without you so many people would not have any clue what is going on with these cats.
Forget the crazies...they are definitely giving "crazy cat ladies" a bad wrap.

I am so glad you are going to continue blogging!

I don't comment much since really, I'm more a dog type person.

But I sooo look forward to your rescue day videos. I love to see any animal getting a new chance at a home life.

I'm sorry sucky people brought you down.

Tessa definitely appreciates what you do Beth, otherwise she wouldn't be purring and rubbing against me as I type! Thank you so much!

How ignorant. I'd say give them each a letter explaining how to actually get things to change; like volunteering, going to meetings, and logically and clearly explaining how this would save both animals and money. Getting riled up and stupid doesn't do anything for the cats it's just an ego boost for a bunch of asses. Our local AC became no kill because neutral parties went between our city, the area shelters and the (asshole) who ran the animal control center. Finally, they fired him and hired someone who was willing to work with volunteers, area shelters and veterinarians who where willing to do low cost spay/neuter. Yelling, threatening and protesting don't do anything except let everyone know just how ignorant they really are, no matter how well meaning.

snicker - mom has been there with the smell in the car - had a kitten poop in January...nothing like driving with the windows down when it is below freezing outside. And why is it always the long hair cats???? MOL

Oh - and to those who leave anonymous voicemails - it is so very brave to say things without leaving a name....boo to you!
