The Unwanted

I'm beginning to wonder if I've been posting too many urgent cats lately. I didn't get one nibble on the two cats I posted yesterday.

So they remain in that horrible place, waiting a horrible fate - alone and unwanted.

I was told today that the little white female cat is so heavily matted she can't move. Her entire body is like a helmet. How...how could somebody do this to her?

I suppose we could say, "there's lots of horrible things going on the world." That's true. But this is my world. I can only work in one little corner of it. Most of us aren't like Angelina Jolie who can make a difference worldwide.

I found the picture of the ribbon "In Memory of the Unwanted" on Facebook today. It really had an impact on me and those that I've been trying to help. A friend in rescue called me today and found 2 four month old kittens on his neighbour's front porch. At least they'll have a chance now, and have been stopped from making more kittens in another month or two.

As often happens, I'm not sure where this blog post is going tonight. But I know I can't stop thinking about the 2 cats sitting at the shelter. They're both owner surrenders and I'm sure they're waiting for the nightmare to end.

I wonder what it must feel like to be so heavily matted that your skin pulls and tears every time you try to move.

I wonder what it feels like to think that every time the door opens your family might be there to take you back home. (Or that it might be time to die.)

There are a lot of cats and dogs that are feeling hopeless tonight. Some are sleeping on wire cage bottoms, cold cement, or in their own litterbox. But right now, I'm thinking about two....

...just two.

Speaking of urgent, what is up with the Hamilton shelter? Are they still battling a distemper outbreak? My heart goes out to these little guys ...

I shared on my FB page. I try not to overwhelm my readers there and on my blog with urgent kitties, since there are SO many! So I have to choose judiciously, much as I hate to NOT post. But I felt so bad that these two poor cats did not get any response and felt I had to do something.

I wish the shelter would try to make the poor cats more comfortable. I am praying that someone can step forward for them. Please tell them I'm so sorry I can't take on another foster right now...and I'm sorry you've heard people say something like that a million times...

Hi Beth, can I put the memory of the unwanted badge on my blog and link it back to your site? Please let me know.

I'm hoping that the kitties you have posted about get a second chance!

My heart goes out to them.

I have a 15-year old girl cat and I know I could NEVER surrender her for convenience or so-called allergies? WTF?!

People are strange but Karma is a b*tch to those who treat their pets as disposable items.

Wishing both Willow and the other girl cat that miracles will happen for them!

My heart goes out to those two in their rusty carriers, and to all the other cats there. I'm full up with "unwanted" fosters, who are so happy and beautiful now. All I can offer is to drive them should there be a home provided. The white cat must have been neglected a long time to be solidly matted. Hugs to you for all you do.
P.S. I'd like a bumper sticker of that medal.

I hope there is rescue/salvation for those poor sweethearts, Beth. :-(

I'm surprised no one in your area contacted you, though. Have you put this out to the Cat Blogosphere news? Is it too late for them?

Is that graphic free for the taking, do you know?

I've done the same, put the badge on my cat blog and linked your blog, Beth. Let me know if you'd prefer I take it down -- email me at keas.fuzzy.tales@gmail.com. Otherwise I'll leave it there. Thanks.

Is there any way to make a donation to help you get them out?

Being over the pond is very frustrating!

This breaks my heart. I'm going to FB these two and hopefully someone will come forward to take them. I'd do it in a heartbeat but I'm fostering fourteen kittens with one mom right now...two seperate litters (one is five weeks the other only two) and mom is doing a great job with supplemental feedings from us humans.~Donna

Hi Beth - I can't stop thinking about that poor little white girl, matted and in pain. This is not an ideal solution, but I could offer to take her and get her groomed so she is comfortable and keep her in spare room until a foster home is found. It's not perfect and it could not be long-term, but it might provide the opportunity to get her out of there and find something more permanent.
