A "Grey" Day

When the vet's office called this afternoon, I had my mind on so many different things at that moment, that I was momentarily speechless when he said, "I have some bad news..."

Our Beasley passed away this afternoon during the recovery period after his long awaited ear surgery.

Just typing that sentence makes my eyes well with tears.  Once again, I had to call a loving foster parent and tell them about the death of their beloved foster cat.  The vet doesn't really know what happened.  His bloodwork was stellar and he did GREAT during the surgery.  But he crashed during the recovery and they couldn't revive him despite working on him for more than an hour.
Our hearts are broken.  You were loved by all of us, Beasley.

I went to the shelter this morning despite all instincts to stay at home with my son.  His surgery for his wisdom teeth didn't go well and he ended up with some MAJOR nerve pain.  Poor kid - last week it was kidney stones.  But he is almost 20 years old and I *do* have a cell phone.  I ended up rescuing a very very cute grey girl:

As usual, the shelter pictures only show how completely terrified they are when they arrive.  This little girl is about 7 months old and adorable.  She started shaking when I held her and purring at the same time.

I couldn't  help but notice that we lost one grey cat and saved the life of another grey cat today.  Coincidence?  It depends on who you ask.

I'm so so sorry about Beasley. More than I can say. I had made a small donation for him, too, poor sweetheart. (((Hugs))) to you and his foster mom.

Maybe he had a hand (paw) in rescuing the little grey girl. :-/

Sending lots of universal Light to all, and right now to your son, too, for his healing.

So sad to read about Beasley, poor little guy. But I do hope the foster parents will take another needy kitty soon, to help fill the void Beasley left and to give another sweet furball a forever home. Maybe the little gray girl???

And my sympathies go out to your son too. Nerve pain from teeth can be horrible - I speak from experience!!! I hope it lets up soon.

Kea: Thank you - we'll need that donation for his medical expenses.

Oh, poor Beasley! And poor foster mom, too. At least Beasley was safe, loved, and not in pain any more.

I hope the vets give big discounts when this happens, even though it might not be their fault. I would suggest that your son use Sensadyne toothpaste as it helps with sensitive teeth.

That is so heart breaking, especially since there were no indications that it could happen that way. And I don't believe the two greys were coincidences.

I am so sorry for the loss of Beasley.... After Bella I know exactly how you feel. Since they are our vets I know he must have done everything humanly possible. One of my friends told me to promise your lost kitty to take another make the space you have now (in your heart and in your home) meaningful. He was loved because of you.

I was just wondering if the same vet has lost all three of the last cats. It seems like an unusually high mortality rate, especially when some of the surgeries were routine.

I am sad beyond measure to read this about Beasley, I was so happy to read this poor guy in so much pain was finally going to enjoy life pain-free. I will keep him tucked into my heart and my sympathies to you and his foster mom for giving him the love he so deserved.

That is terribly sad news. We lost our beloved grey cat Tim, late in the evening of the 10th and in memory of our sweet old boy we'd made a donation to help Beasley. They were both grey and both bothered by ear problems(Tim was almost entirely deaf) so it seemed very appropriate. I know a certain someone with a "cat sized hole in his heart" is going to be very upset by this news as am I. Rest in peace sweet Beasley.

I agree with Anonymous, maybe time to look for a new vet. I'm not saying it's their fault, but they may have some faulty equipment, drugs, or procedeures.

I am sad to hear about Beasley crossing the rainbow bridge. Take comfort in knowing that he is not in pain anymore, and his last days were spent in a loving foster home, not a steel cage in a shelter. (((hugs)))
