Too Angry to Come Up With a Good Title

This is an angry post. I should be fist pumping with excitement over the seven cats that I rescued today. Instead, I walked into the shelter this morning to find that a nameless dimwit employee at the shelter went to management to complain about 2 pairs of brothers (4 cats) that hadn't been rescued yet and she asked that they be killed the next time the vet arrives on Wednesday.

In other words....she didn't want to clean their cages any longer and felt that they had been at the shelter "long enough".

These cats aren't hurting anybody. They're in the dog area so that they can remain together.

Unless they can be rescued, they will remain together in death.

They don't have names, but they do need to be rescued in pairs.

"Brothers A"

"Brothers B"

All except the first cat pictured have been neutered. I wouldn't ask for help except they are all so sweet and loving. They're bigger cats and all are adults - probably under 5 years old.

I've never put out an urgent plea like this before. After spending two months in that shelter to end up dead because some cat hater employee said so, infuriates me.

I took SEVEN cats today to help buy them some time, but unfortunately it didn't help. You do NOT have to take 4 cats, but they must be rescued in pairs. Please spread the word:

Sometime before Wednesday morning at 7 am, they will either be rescued together, or they will die together.

Are you on Pets.ca? I'm not, but a co-worker is. There might be rescue resources to get the cats out and I've sent your blog post link to my co-worker, but I'm not sure she'll get it tonight (sent to both her home email and work email).

We're both in Kingston, but there ARE rescue folks in the Toronto region, and west of.

OMG Beth what a horrible person, like what's an extra cage to clean especially since that's their job! I hope they get out they seem sweet, if I wasn't moving I'd take them. Can ya tell us who you rescued?

Kea: Thank you so much! Yes, I know the rescue folks since I'm one of them. LOL Please feel free to cross post. Most rescues are so full right now. :(

Thank you so much for trying!!

Oh, sorry, we're posting comments at cross-purposes here!

I've just left a voice mail for my co-worker, at home, asking if she can check her email tonight, get your post link. Not sure anything can be done, but maybe she can help spread the word.

Fingers and paws crossed, they're all gorgeous boys, so deserving of their forever homes.

I think I'm going to have a good cry now...

I can't believe that. I am so mad I can't even cry - and I cry about everything. I hope he/she gets fired in short order because killing animals "just because" is not in the job description.

That is awful. It makes me really angry too, and I personally think the dimwit (actually I think that is to nice a name for the ****) should be fired. I hope they can find homes. These Big Boys look so sweet.

I'd have to question any vet that would end the life of a healthy animal just because some PAID worker was tired of doing what they are paid to do. Will cross post and see if we can get some help.

Wow, should I say how I really feel about this "person" who is so awful or keep it to myself???

I will cross-post too!

Please know that this is the way things are at a high-kill shelter. Although I think the employee is ridiculously lazy and uncaring - it is NOT against any policy at the shelter. These sweet cats have been giving more than the allotted 3 days "stray" time.

This just makes me ill. If I were in the area I would take them in a heartbeat. I'll hope with everything in me that they find homes.

There's cat rescues all over the Durham Region, I am sure someone can take them.

Good God - I hope one day someone feels the same way about this dimwit - tired of cleaning up after then and makes them 'go away'

*FINGERS CROSSED* someone can help this brothers.

That is terrible! How does the employee get away with such behavior? The cats should not die because she ... It makes us angry too.

What a miserable person that employee is, you'd think he/she worked in a shelter because they actually cared about animals! I like to think that karma will take care of people like that.

These big boys look so sweet, I hope they can get safe, loving homes.

I cannot believe that someone like that would ever be hired to work anywhere that has anything to do with animals! I am disgusted beyond words.

I can repost this to my Facebook page tonight (I have over 1500 followers, not sure how many are or know someone in your area), but honestly I feel so helpless with such a short time frame...

I wish you the very best of luck in getting the brothers out, and wish I was closer and able to help. If the very worst happens, at the very least you will have allowed them to go to the bridge knowing that there are people who care, and that there are people with light and love in their hearts.

Got the link on my facebook also. I live in Grand Prairie, Texas or I'd be on my way with a large carrier for both sets of the Band of Brothers.

The person requesting them being killed should walk a mile in the Brothers skin. Maybe it would make them a member of a sentient race. Neh?

What is this idiot doing working at a shelter if that's how she feels? Let's see what we can do!

Folks, I'm having problems moderating the comments on my blog. If you're not seeing your comment posted, it's not because I don't care - blogger isn't letting me. ARGH!

If there's something urgent that I need to know, please email me directly.

Thank you so much for the love and support for the cats...

Beth, my question and concern - after the worry for these brothers - is.. that a person like this is working in a shelter, working with animals. Why do people that get annoyed at animals or despise working around them, go to work in a shelter for animals?

I hope the brothers find a foster or a forever home. I will crosspost on my FaceBook.

Countess: That's the million dollar question. I wonder if they start that kind of work by loving animals...then get hurt so often it's the way they cope?

I don't have an answer. I wish to heck that I did. I've been staring at the clock all day - afraid to miss a phone call. *UGH*

Why is that person working at an animal shelter at all?

I saw at the CB that the brothers have been saved. Hooray!!! Best of wishes to them in their new homes.

Johanna Tito said...

You are in Toronto, right? Can't the Toronto Humane Society take these four? They did some pound rescue just the other day.

House of the Discarded said...

Johanna: I already tried that :(

Redstar Cafe: Tried that - nobody called me back.
