"Being Alive Isn't Good Enough"

I'm devoting today's blog post to an incredible article that I was made aware of  by a fellow blogger at Dog Rescuer's Life.  In fact, it's SO good, that I'm going to leave it up for a few days.  PLEASE read every word.  This blogger has hit the nail on the head and it's what I've been trying to say for years:

"How I Failed As A Rescuer"

Good, sad and true read. Makes me think of a previous FIV foster who was taken to Best Friends in Utah. I hope he's ok. My previous comment regarding the warehouse would only be if I had the money to staff it and there would be strict number limits!

Beth, have you thought of raising money for your charges by having cat/kitten naming contests? The blog IttyBittyKittyCommittee has raised major money by allowing the public to bid on naming their foster kittens. Just an idea, I know you're super busy.

My human ran across this blog post a few days ago and it really resonated with her too, especially because she remembers reading about Tiger Ranch and how heartbreaking it was. She has been working on a big writing project that actually addresses a lot of what is discussed here in this story. Paws crossed that it gets picked up by a publisher this fall!

Hey Beth and hi Caroline, this is so great to see you on here only minutes ago I was forwarded a video link of Max at Best Friends. Check it out as he is now on the adoptable pets page. Super adorable and I know it will make you smile. I was Max's first foster home and was lucky enough to take him to Utah(with very mixed emotions) After reading this post all I could think of was Max and other cats like him that have to endure such heartwrenching conditons and live without love or quality of life:( Max was one of the lucky ones ...My heart breaks for the all of the others that will never know what it is to be truly loved or safe. Beth this is an amazing post. It brings to light the realty of rescue...the good and the bad. Such a powerful read. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hey Crystal, I was thinking of Max yesterday too when I read Beth's post and so I checked Best Friends and didn't see him on the resident cat list so I was rather concerned and then today I was emailed Max's video and he looks very happy. I'd say he adjusted well. Beth he did the opposite of you and became an American after being a Canadian!

Amen! Thanks for sharing this Beth...I'll be passing it along to others as well. I find myself on a regular basis saying in my head, "It's not up to me to save them all." It's a collective effort. Everyone must do their part. We've turned so many owner surrenders away. I want to say to them...we have 45 cats to find homes for and you have one! Come on people don't you think you could put some effort into finding them a home. But it's just like the article points out they want to unload their problem onto someone else so they can go about living their happy life!
